Why are you fundraising for this project?
While this is a somewhat unconventional route to take, I want to share my gift freely with teachers who are in need of new music but struggle to purchase all that they need due to limited budgets. By offering my compositions for free, teachers will be able to stretch their budgets a little further. I also want to be able to share my musical gifts at senior living communities regularly for free and not put a financial burden on those institutions. By appealing to a community of supporters I can focus my time on this project and together we can bless many more teachers, students, and residents than I could on my own.
How will donations be used?
Donations will be used to cover costs of the project and to offset daily living expenses, allowing me to commit to the project full-time. Donors will be acting as patrons of the music I am creating and helping get it out into the world.
Are donations tax deductible?
At this time the Da Capo al Fine project does not have 501(c)(3) status, so gifts are not tax deductible. However, based on the success of the project in its first year this is something I hope to pursue for future years.
What will happen if you do not meet your fundraising goal by August of 2023?
I am committed to working on this project throughout 2023, even if I have to on a limited basis. I will continue to fundraise while working on the project in the fall, but for months that are only partially funded, I will pursue other opportunities to cover daily living expenses (ex: substitute teaching, accompanying gigs, designing digital products). I will still devote as much time to the Da Capo al Fine project as possible. I also plan on selling accompaniment tracks at an affordable price for all of the compositions in the Da Capo al Fine magazine, to help support the work of this project.
What if you exceed your goal?
Funds will be kept in a separate account specifically designated for this project and will be used to continue the project in 2024.
How often do you plan on performing at senior living communities?
Once I am focusing on this project full-time I would like to perform twice a week at area facilities.
How many compositions will be in each issue of the digital magazine you distribute to teachers?
My goal is to have 4-6 compositions in each issue, depending on funding and the nature of the creative process. The first issue that will be distributed in August will most likely only have 4 songs since I am still working at my current school until June and can only devote myself part-time to this project until August. If fully funded for the fall, the December issue should have 6 or more songs.
What types and levels of songs will you be composing?
I will compose a variety of songs, including secular, sacred and seasonal pieces for standard ensembles (unison, 2 part, 3 part mixed, SAB, SSA & SATB). I aim to have a variety of compositions in each issue of the Da Capo al Fine magazine.
How will you spend your time each week working on this project?
The majority of time will be spent on the composing process--brainstorming new song ideas, notating songs that are in process, and making demo recordings of the songs. A portion of the week will also be devoted to preparing for performances at senior living communities and then giving those performances. I will also spend time each week on admin work including managing my website and Facebook page to keep supporters informed on the progress of the project. I will use a time tracker app to record how much time each week is spent on the different areas of the project. I fully recognize that supporters are entrusting me with their gifts and I want to be a good steward of those gifts.
